Are you looking for ACCA textbook review before starting your study? Here I will review one of the textbooks for you to consider before you kick off the journey to exam.
There are different ACCA Financial Accounting (FA, was F3) textbooks in bookshop. BPP Learning Media, an ACCA approved content provider^ for many years, publishes the book for students preparing ACCA FA/FFA exam.
If you studied book-keeping before, some of the areas in ACCA FA are not new to you. The book introduced here helps you to understand major principles and concepts relating to financial accounting and the use of double-entry accounting techniques, including preparation of basic financial statements.
The study text begins with introducing the fundamentals of regulatory framework relating to accounts preparation and to the qualitative characteristics of useful information. It is followed by introducing how double-entry and accounting systems in financial statements preparation.
The book moves on next important topic which is recording transactions and events. Transactions such as inventory, tangible non-current assets, accruals and prepayments are discussed in details.
After recording transactions and events, the book goes to the techniques in preparing a trial balance which is consistent with the real life accounting operations. Then, the book tells you how to prepare financial statements for incorporated and unincorporated entities.
In the last part, the textbook discussions are in two directions, firstly it introduce a basic interpretation of financial statements; and secondly it shows the skills on preparing simple consolidated financial statements from individual financial statements of group incorporated entities.
The textbook is written in the same sequence as ACCA FA syllabus in which you can easily refer to the syllabus from top to bottom for the chapters studied. Moreover, there are a number of helpful features in each chapter to guide you through different topic, such as Exam Focus Point shows when and how specific topics were examined, or how they may be examined in future.
What I appreciate the most is the number of practice questions. In addition to the Quick Quiz section in the end of each chapter to test your knowledge, there are 100 questions at back of the textbook for practice and you can check against the practice answers which is very helpful in your study.
Nonetheless, the font and charts presented do not look very good and I find it is a bit wordy. However, the content and questions are in good quality and adequate which are useful for you to pass the exam. I recommend this book to anyone preparing ACCA FA/FFA exam.
